St. Albert is a small city of over 65,000 residents and shoulders Edmonton’s north-west border. One of Canada’s best locations to live, the community boasts affluent neighborhoods, low crime, great medical facilities, an abundance of green spaces, and lots of kids of all ages.

HISTORY

Founded in 1861 by Father Albert Lacombe, St Albert was originally settled St. Albert Mission in 1861 as a Metis community. The Father Lacombe Chapel is generally considered the oldest surviving building in Alberta.

St. Albert officially became a city in 1977. Much of St. Albert’s history still lives in the Musée Héritage Museum, in St Albert Place.

ARTS

The city has a long history of delivering exceptial arts and culture activities such as the International Children’s Festival of the Arts. With a reputation for artistic excellence, the City of St. Albert is also home to The Arden Theatre, St. Albert Children’s Theatre, as well as many diverse special events and celebrations.

Today the St. Albert Amplify Festival works hard to attract youth and develop musicians, artists, designers and writers.

SPORTS

St. Albert is proud to celebrate its artist and athletic community. In fact, St. Albert Trail has been renamed after it’s highest profile NHL player to have played in the NHL – Marc Messier, and is now called Mark Messier Trail. In addition to providing a prolific opportunity to pursue all manner of athletics, the city is also home to the Rainmaker Rodeo.

RECREATION

St. Albert boasts 99.5 kilometers of recreational trails including Red Will Trail system which connects the city’s major parks and neighborhoods.
In addition, Servus Credit Union Place contains over 230,000 square feet of leisure and fitness space, and includes three NHL sized arenas, two field houses, three gymnasium courts, and much more.
